Minister for Tourism and Culture Kandula Durgesh on Friday recalled the contribution of Sir Arthur Cotton to the development of the Godavari Delta through the irrigation system, including the Dowleswaram anicut, spread across the length and breadth of the Godavari river.

Mr. Durgesh paid floral tributes to the statue of Sir Arthur Cotton on the occasion of his 223rd birth anniversary, which was observed across the Godavari delta on Friday. The construction of the Dowleswaram anicut began in 1847 and was completed in 1852.

In Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema district, which forms part of the Central and Western Delta regions, farmers also paid floral tributes to the statues of Sir Arthur Cotton in their respective villages, remembering his services to the region.
