Slamming the State government for shifting the responsibility on the Central government in releasing flood relief funds, the former Minister Baburao Chavan has urged the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government to announce a relief package for all flood-affected people in North Karnataka districts.

Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, Mr. Chavan said that the State government should use the State Disaster Relief Funds without waiting for compensation under the NDRF to provide help at such a time as the impact of devastation is huge.

He also asked the State government to submit a detailed report to the Centre on loss assessment and also send a proposal for financial aid.

Mr. Chavan criticized Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge’s remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah as distasteful and disgraceful.

Mr. Kharge should urge Kalaburagi MP Radhakrishna Doddamani to raise questions on NDRF grants and the flood relief package in Parliament instead of making such derogatory remarks against the Prime Minister and the Home Minister.

The people of the region deserve responsible governance not constant political blame-games and misleading narratives, Mr. Chavan said and urged the State government to extend financial assistance to flood-affected families instead of shifting the responsibility to the Centre.
