A sub-inspector attached to the Elamakkara police station, who was wanted in two separate cases involving alleged sexual harassment and attempted extortion surrendered at the North Town police station and was subsequently arrested on Monday. The accused was identified as Mujeeb. H. He is set to produced before the court later on Monday. He was an investigation assistant in a narcotics case last September. He was absconding since the registration of cases against him.

He allegedly threatened and sexually harassed people claiming that their names were found in the contact list of an accused in a narcotics case. He is set to face departmental level disciplinary action, including suspension. Reportedly, the accused contacted one of the complainants, a woman, in the case being investigated without the knowledge of the station house officer. The accused allegedly intimidated her her into granting sexual favours. When she resisted the attempts, he allegedly threatened to implicate her in the narcotics case. Subsequently, the woman lodged a complaint with the Station House Officer of Elamakkara.

He was also booked on a complaint registered by a doctor from Pathanamthitta who alleged that the accused tried to extort Rs 1.5 lakh from him by threatening to implicate him in the narcotics case. The accused allegedly met the doctor in person and repeatedly contacted him over the phone. The accused had gone on leave before the formal registration of the cases and went into hiding soon after the FIRs were filed.
