Fines totalling ₹6,500 were imposed on shops in Kadavanthra where violations were detected as part of a food safety drive conducted by the Health department, Food Safety wing, Health division of the Kochi Corporation, and the police on Thursday.

Inspections were conducted at six outlets in Kadavanthra. The violations detected included the use of banned food colouring and stale milk, and the absence of health cards and drinking water test reports.

Drinking water samples were collected from the six shops and sent for testing. Inspections will be intensified at hotels, roadside eateries, and food stalls during the Onam season, according to a communication.
