The Shivamogga police arrested three persons on charges of throwing a mobile phone, cigarettes, and beedi into the Central Prison at Sogane, on the outskirts of Shivamogga city.

The accused have been identified as Imran Pasha, 25, of Tipu Nagar, Syed Mallik, 22, of Tipu Nagar, and Alla Baksh, 20, of Ambedkar Nagar in the city. The Tunga Nagar police arrested them on January 2, based on a complaint filed by P. Ranganath, Chief Superintendent of the Central Prison.

Mr. Ranganath, in his complaint, stated that unknown individuals threw packets covered with black gum tape inside the prison on January 30. The packets contained a mobile phone, cigarettes, and beedis. The jail staff noticed the packets and informed the officer, who subsequently filed the complaint. The Tunga Nagar police registered the case on January 31 under the Karnataka Prisons Act, 2022, which deals with the supply of prohibited items into the prison.

A press release issued by Shivamogga Superintendent of Police B. Nikhil stated that Inspector K.T. Gururaj, Police Sub-Inspectors Gadilinga Gowdar and Raghuveer, along with their staff, succeeded in arresting the accused after investigating the case under the guidance of senior officers, including Additional Superintendents of Police A.G. Cariappa and Ramesh Kumar, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Babu Anjanappa.
