Shivamogga Member of Parliament B.Y. Raghavendra has urged residents of Shivamogga not to panic over reports of setting up a nuclear plant at Besur in Sagar taluk, stating that there is no such proposal.

The MP, in a communique to the media on Sunday (April 26, 2026), stated that the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) had identified Vijayapura, Koppal, Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada and Raichur districts to set up a nuclear power plant.
