Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Tuesday said that 13,000 potholes across the city have been filled so far, with photo and video evidence recorded for each. He invited the media to verify the claims during his city inspection of road works.

“Officials are following government orders and carrying out pothole-filling work. I have instructed that an action plan worth ₹1,100 crore be prepared for the development of 550 km of major roads,” Mr. Shivakumar told reporters after reviewing the ongoing works.

He said laying concrete at junctions of major roads would take about 26 days, and discussions are underway on traffic management during the period. “I am trying to provide a permanent solution for Bengaluru’s roads. The Chief Minister has also assured ₹750 crore for pothole-filling,” he added.

On ward-level development, Mr. Shivakumar announced that ₹1,100 crore would be released to MLAs specifically for road improvement in their constituencies.

Turning to the city’s waste management woes, the Minister admitted the problem persists. “While going to the Congress office today, I saw that someone had dumped a truckload of waste on Jayamahal Road overnight. I have directed officials to trace the culprit through CCTV cameras, register a case, and seize the vehicle,” he said, while pointing out that public cooperation in waste disposal was lacking.

When reporters asked about reports of a congestion tax being planned for Bengaluru, Mr. Shivakumar dismissed them. “It is false. Some industrialists may have suggested it to the Union government, but no such proposal is before us,” he clarified.
