Sharnbasva University to hold 7th convocation on December 21

Sharnbasva University will hold its 7th Annual Convocation on December 21 at the Poojya Sharnbaswappa Appa Anubhava Mantap located within the Sharanabasaveshwar Shrine complex in Kalaburagi.

The convocation will take place in the presence of Doddappa Appa, the 9th Mahadasoha Peetadipathi of the Sharanabasaveshwar Samasthan. The announcement was made on Friday by the Chancellor, Dakshayini Avva, at a press conference held at the Dasoha Mahamane in Kalaburagi.

Ms. Avva said that renowned agricultural scientist and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, P.L. Patil would deliver the convocation address and present gold medals and certificates to undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and PhD awardees. She added that Philip Samuel Babu, head of Higher Education Skilling at SAP India, would attend as chief of honour.

Vice-Chancellor Anilkumar Bidve will welcome the gathering, while Registrar S.G. Dollegoudar and Registrar (Evaluation) S.H. Honnalli will conduct the proceedings, she added.

Ms. Avva announced that the university would confer honorary doctorates on three eminent personalities, Syed Muhammad Ali Al-Hussaini, Sajjada Nasheen of the historic Khaja Banda Nawaz Dargah, for its legacy of secularism and religious harmony, Sri Gurupadalinga Mahashivayogigalu, Peetadipathi of Sriguru Chennaveereshwara Viraktamatha, Muthyan Bablad, in recognition of his work in promoting organic and natural farming and Shashil G. Namoshi, a Member of Legislative Council and the president of the Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society in recognition to his contributions to education and regional development.

Ms. Avva announced two new cash awards of ₹21,000 each, instituted in the name of late Sharnbaswappa Appa, for the male and female university toppers. This year, the awards will go to Simra Nishath Bandenawaz Kalakeri, who secured a 9.95 CGPA in MSc (Mathematics), and Rahul, who topped BTech (Mechanical) with a 9.75 CGPA. For the first time, all 44 gold medal winners will also receive a cash prize of ₹1,000. A total of 199 students have secured ranks this year, of whom 45 will receive gold medals. Twenty-one scholars will be awarded their PhD degrees.

Prof. Bidve said that 1,919 undergraduate and postgraduate students would receive their degrees at the convocation. He noted that women have outperformed men across categories and added that women students would receive 1,080 degrees compared with 809 for men. They secured 152 of the 199 ranks and 37 of the 44 gold medals. Men fared better only in the PhD category, receiving 11 of the 21 doctorates, he added.

As many as 1,362 students are eligible for undergraduate degrees and 527 for postgraduate degrees. For the first time, nine DPharm students will also receive their certificates. In addition to several existing endowment prizes, five new cash awards have been instituted in memory of various personalities for toppers in BBA (Women), BCA (Women), MBA (Co-ed), and the Fine Arts and Music departments.

Since its inception, the university has awarded PhD degrees to 54 candidates, 3,678 postgraduate degrees, 4,606 undergraduate degrees and nine diplomas, and has conferred 19 honorary doctorates.

Ms. Avva will preside over the convocation and present the honorary doctorates, gold medals, cash prizes and degree certificates.
