Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Y.S. Sharmila on Tuesday criticised the coalition government in Andhra Pradesh for what she called a ‘failure’ to implement the Maha Shakti (Aadabidda Nidhi) scheme even after nearly two years in power.

In a message posted on social media platform ‘X’, Ms. Sharmila alleged a complete lack of sincerity on the part of the government towards women’s empowerment. She accused it of delaying the scheme by giving vague assurances tied to festivals such as Deepavali and Sankranti.

“Aadabidda Nidhi is among the important ‘Super Six’ guarantees, aimed at providing financial security of ₹18,000 per year to women aged 18 to 59,” she said, adding that assurances of boosting income levels of women had not translated into action.

Calling the delay a ‘major betrayal’ of nearly 1.5 crore women in the State, Ms. Sharmila demanded that the government announce a timeline and immediately implement the scheme.
