Seven youth were arrested by Vatticherukuru police for allegedly consuming and selling ganja, with 1.7 kg of the contraband seized during a raid on Monday. Superintendent of Police (SP) Vakul Jindal, in a press release, said that the operation was carried out based on specific information.

Police conducted a raid around 3 p.m. near an agricultural godown on the Ananthavarappadu-Lemallepadu road. The accused were found engaging in ganja-related activities and were taken into custody. Police seized 1.7 kg of ganja, an autorickshaw, and ₹1,300 in cash from them.

The main accused was identified as Matluri Sai Krishna (25), a resident of Guntur, who allegedly procured ganja from Vijayawada at low cost and sold it at higher prices. The remaining accused — Kamunuri Pradeep, Istela Joseph Raju, Jeshtati Daniel Raju, Siripalli Naga Sesh, Battula Santosh and Bhogineni Narendra — were reportedly consuming and distributing small packets.

A case was registered under relevant sections of NDPS Act, and the accused were produced before a court. Police warned that strict action would continue against drug-related offences.
