A State secretariat member of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), an incumbent councillor of the party in the Kozhikode Corporation, and a district general secretary of the Congress joined the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kozhikode in recent days. While K. Pokker, senior IUML leader and State general secretary of the party’s trade union wing Swathanthra Thozhilali Union, announced his decision to cooperate with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], K. Ramlath, IUML councillor from the Moonnalingal ward in the Kozhikode Corporation, joined the Rashtriya Janata Dal, an LDF ally, on Tuesday. It is learnt that Mr. Pokker was unhappy with the selection of candidate in Nallalam, while Mr. Ramlath’s decision was spurred by the denial of the ticket to her this time from her ward. Congress leader N.V. Baburaj, who was unhappy over the candidate selection in the Eranhipalam ward, claimed on Monday that he would be a Left sympathiser from now on.
