Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan has hailed the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), which has performed heart valve surgeries on nearly two lakh patients, as an inspiration for all government institutions in the country.

Research becomes a true success only when it touches common people and creates a larger and meaningful impact on society, a goal that the SCTIMST has achieved commendably, Mr. Radhakrishnan said.

The Vice-President was addressing a gathering on Tuesday after visiting the SCTIMST’s newly inaugurated hospital building under the Pradhan Mantri Swastha Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), which boasts high-end medical infrastructure, sophisticated medical equipment and expanded intensive care unit facilities.

He also visited the medical exhibition arranged at the SCTIMST, showcasing the medical innovations and new technologies indegenously developed at the Institute. He said that the government’s ultimate goal was health for all and called for better services to the poorest of the poor.

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Union Minister of State for Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Tourism Suresh Gopi, State Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal, and SCTIMST Director Sanjay Behari also addressed the meeting.
