Run for Mandya marathon evokes good response

Minister in-charge of Mandya district N. Cheluvarayaswamy on Sunday inaugurated the ‘Namma Nade Swachhate Kade – Run for Mandya’ marathon at Sir M. Visvesvaraya District Stadium and called upon people to join hands for the overall development of Mandya district.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister said that although Mandya district is well known across the country, there is still a need for greater and comprehensive development. He urged citizens to cooperate with the district administration in its initiatives to strengthen the district’s overall progress.

Appreciating the efforts of P. Ravikumar, MLA for Mandya, he said the legislator has been organising innovative programmes and undertaking several development works. He also noted that the recent Kannada Sahitya Sammelana held in Mandya was successfully organised due to the combined efforts of the MLA and the district administration.

Presiding over the programme, Sri Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji of Adichunchanagiri Math said that India will complete 100 years of Independence in 2047 and stressed the need to work towards making the country a leading nation in the world by then. He also emphasised the importance of maintaining cleanliness in our surroundings, adding that collective efforts are essential to build a clean district.

Music director and president of the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy, Sadhu Kokila, highlighted the importance of environmental protection and said awareness about cleanliness, plastic-free surroundings and sanitation in homes, schools and public places is essential. He added that efforts must begin at home.

Actor Virat said cleanliness is the foundation of good health, and that maintaining hygienic surroundings is crucial to prevent communicable diseases. Actor Radhika Narayan also stressed the need to promote cleanliness in households and spread awareness about environmental hygiene.

MLA, P. Ravikumar, Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Kumar, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer, K.R. Nandini, Superintendent of Police Dr. Shobha Rani and others were present.
