The route march of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), scheduled as part of its centenary celebrations, was taken out in Sedam of Kalaburagi district on Sunday despite police restrictions.

Dramatic scenes unfolded as hundreds of uniformed RSS workers gathered on the premises of Narmada College at 1 p.m. and began their route march at 3 p.m. as scheduled.

As the procession entered the main road near the DBR Compound, police intervened and stopped the march citing lack of official permission.

According to officials, Sedam Tahsildar Shreyanka Dhanashri on Saturday night rejected the RSS request to take out the procession, stating that it can disturb public peace and order.

Undeterred, participants went ahead with the event.

Police detained several Swayamsevaks and the band party members, loading them onto four or five buses. However, many locals objected to the police action, leading to heated exchanges and minor scuffles.

Inside the buses, the detained volunteers played their instruments and raised slogans such as “Bharat Mata ki Jai” in protest.

After some time, they were released at different points in the town, including the bus stand and taluk panchayat office. The Swayamsevaks later regrouped and resumed the march, passing through various localities where residents showered them with flower petals.

The march concluded back at Narmada College.
