Karnataka Rice Research Centre is coming up at V.C. Farm in Mandya, said Minister in charge of Mandya district and Agriculture Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy.

Speaking at the Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations in Mandya on Friday, he said the proposed centre aims to develop high-yielding, nutrient-rich rice varieties that are resistant to biotic and abiotic stresses.

A delegation of the State government and scientists from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Mandya recently visited the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in Manila, Philippines, and signed a memorandum of understanding in this regard, he informed.

The Minister said the construction of the administrative building of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Mandya costing ₹70.70 crore, and other facilities costing ₹23.25 crore has been approved.
