Residents have objected to BMRCL’s proposal to name the upcoming Pink Line station as IIMB Metro station, saying it does not reflect the locality’s identity, and have suggested it be named after Bilekahalli.

Residents in south Bengaluru have written to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) seeking a change in the proposed name of the upcoming “IIMB” metro station on the Pink Line, urging authorities to recognise the locality’s identity by renaming it ‘IIMB–Bilekahalli’.
In a letter addressed to BMRCL, a local resident, Vasant Shetty, along with other residents, emphasised that Bilekahalli is more than just a geographical reference. “Bilekahalli is not merely a geographic marker, but a place with its own history, identity, and local significance,” the letter stated, adding that naming the station solely after an institution risks overlooking the cultural context of the area.
