With an aim to improve the SSLC results of seven districts of the Kalyana Karnataka region, which is observed to be lagging behind, the State government has decided to implement the remedial teaching programme in government and aided schools. These special classes will be held from January to March to all students grouped into above average, average and below average students should be engaged separately.

While teachers taking these classes will get ₹1000 per month, each school will get ₹6000 to bear the travel expenses of students attending these classes from afar. The State government has earmarked ₹3.44 crore for the project, to be borne by Kalyana Karnataka Regional Development Board (KKRDB).

Termed “Mission 40+”, to ensure that students pass, the programme aims to achieve 90% results in these seven districts. This comes in the backdrop of the region faring poorly compared to other districts of the State. In 2024-25, Kalaburagi district ranked last in the results with 41.35% results. Other districts also had poor results — Ballari (50.91%), Bidar (52.3%), Koppal (56.57%), Raichur (50.76%), Vijayapura (66.78%) and Yadgir (59.6%). The Kalyana Karnataka region achieved 52.42% results. Out of a total of 1,70,788 students who appeared for the examination, only 89,519 students passed and 82,169 students failed, in the region.

7,462 teachers to be deployed

There are a total of 1,345 government high schools, including Kannada, Urdu and Marathi medium, in the districts of Kalyana Karnataka region. A total of 7,462 teachers will be deployed for the remedial teaching programme.

“Steps should be taken to complete the syllabus by the end of December 2025 as per the academic annual guidelines. A special class should be organised for one subject before the school session every day and answers to subject-wise model question papers should be written after the school session every day to increase the quality of writing and improve writing ability of the students. And they should be read aloud,” reads the order.

“Students who are absent from classes for more than seven days continuously should be visited at home, consulted and brought back to school. It has been stated that to improve the learning of students with poor learning characteristics, group activities should be formed to learn with students who have made learning progress and take steps to achieve learning,” the order further said.
