With the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters list set to get under way in earnest in Kerala this week, election officials have kicked off a ‘reels challenge’ as part of efforts to raise awareness about the exercise.

The ‘SIR Reels Challenge’ will be on from November 4 to December 4, the same period of the house-to-house enumeration phase. The challenge is to “create innovative and engaging reels on the SIR,” the office of Chief Electoral Officer of Kerala, Rathan U. Kelkar, said.

Cash prizes are being offered for the best entries. The reels must be uploaded on social media by tagging the official pages of CEO Kerala, according to an ad put out by CEO’s office.

The reels challenge is an attempt to make an otherwise unexciting bureaucratic exercise interesting for the public, especially for the youth, election officials said.

The month-long, house-to-house enumeration phase of SIR will kick off on November 4 in Kerala. All voters as on October 27, 2025, will be given the SIR enumeration form. The verification phase will start after the publication of the draft rolls on December 9. The final rolls will be published on February 7.

Major political parties except the BJP have opposed the SIR, especially the decision to hold it just when the State is moveing towards the local body polls. The State Cabinet has decided to call an all-party meeting at 4 p.m. on November 5 to discuss the situation.
