Panathur Main Road in East Bengaluru, which has been closed to vehicular movement for white-topping work, is unlikely to reopen by the scheduled deadline, as civic works have been delayed.
The stretch, a key connector between the city centre and the eastern parts, till the outskirts, has remained closed since October 10 for white-topping and was expected to reopen on November 1.
However, a traffic advisory issued on Thursday stated, “Due to ongoing works by KPTCL, BWSSB, and BESCOM, the Panathur Road project is facing delays. The reopening date will be announced shortly. The public is requested to cooperate.”
Officials said post laying and curing work are yet to begin, as they have been held up by the activities of other civic agencies mentioned above.
According to traffic police, the closure of Panathur Road has had a spillover effect on HAL Airport Road, with most vehicular traffic being diverted there.
“From ISRO Junction, across Marathahalli, all the way to Varthur, traffic congestion has worsened. Additional personnel from the HAL Traffic Police Station and nearby stations have been deployed,” a senior police officer told The Hindu.
The officer added that the delay could extend by three to five days, depending on the weather, as rain might further push the deadline.
