Ramayana has just unveiled what might be its most defining chapter so far. Ranbir Kapoor‘s first look as Lord Ram is out. The ‘Rama’ teaser was unveiled across the world at the same time, carrying a certain weight with it. This is a story that has lived on for over 5,000 years. For many, it’s deeply familiar, almost personal. For others, this could be the first time they’re seeing it unfold at this scale, with this kind of visual ambition.
Ranbir Kapoor’s first look as Lord Ram from Ramayana unveiled
Namit Malhotra, the producer of Ramayana, has introduced ‘Rama’ through a dedicated teaser. It’s the first proper look at Ranbir Kapoor stepping into the role. The audience now has a fair idea of the tonality of the film and how RK will look as Lord Ram. Partial glimpses of Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman were introduced. “Before there were heroes, there was Rama”, the logline reads.
What stands out about Rama is not just what he does, but what he chooses not to do. He gives up power when he could have held on to it. He puts duty above everything else, even when it costs him dearly. Known as Maryada Purushottama, he represents an ideal of dignity, restraint, and moral clarity, even in moments of loss, exile, and injustice. That’s what keeps the story relevant, even now.
Ramayana: Nitesh Tiwari, Ranbir Kapoor, Namit Malhotra talk about the film
Nitesh Tiwari, Director of Ramayana – the 2-part film franchise, said, “Ramayana’s greatness lies in its emotional richness. At its heart, it is not just about good and evil, but about choices, consequences, and the weight of doing what is right. Rama’s journey is deeply human and that is what we have tried to stay true to.”
Ranbir Kapoor spoke about playing Rama, “I don’t think I’m here to represent Rama. I’m here to learn from him. There is a simplicity and purity to him that is very rare; and trying to understand and imbibe that has been a deeply humbling experience.”
Namit Malhotra, Producer, Film-maker and Creative Architect of Ramayana said, “The power of Rama’s story is not in what he conquers, but in what he lets go of. He represents a standard that is not easy, not convenient; but necessary. He chooses duty over desire, truth over comfort, and sacrifice over self. That is why his story has endured for thousands of years, and why it continues to matter today.”
What to expect from Namit Malhotra’s version of Ramayana?
The story of Ramayana has been retold in over 300 versions across cultures and regions worldwide. In case you are wondering how producer Namit Malhotra and filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari will tell the film, the description reads: “From visionary producer and film-maker Namit Malhotra comes RAMAYANA: PART 1, a sweeping, two-part cinematic event inspired by one of the world’s most enduring epics. Since the beginning of time, the Trinity Gods rule the three worlds; Brahma – god who creates; Vishnu – god who protects and Shiva – god who transforms. As the realms of heaven, earth edge toward chaos, the Trinity god Vishnu descends to earth in an avatar to restore balance. This time, Vishnu is reborn as RAMA (Ranbir Kapoor), a human prince destined to restore balance. Opposing him, stands the most formidable, learned, undefeatable and immortal demon king RAVANA (Yash), blessed by the Trinity themselves, driven by pride and a vengeance powerful enough to shatter the cosmos.”
Adding, “Unaware of his true purpose as the only opponent destined to stand up to Ravana in a fateful cosmic design; Rama is the idol of Dharma (duty above all) and the most loved crown prince of Ayodhya, the greatest human dynasty of the time. Rama tries to build a life of quiet honor with his beloved wife Sita (Sai Pallavi) and loyal brother Lakshman (Ravie Dubey) amongst others, until a twist of fate drives him into exile and toward an inevitable clash with Ravana in a reckoning so cataclysmic, it will decide the destiny of gods and mortals.”
