The India Meteorological Department (IMD) mentioned in a bulletin released on Wednesday that Eluru and Alluri Sitarama Raju districts will continue to be under red alert, while an orange warning has been sounded for Parvathipuram Manyam, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Anakapalli and Visakhapatnam districts.
The respective district administrations of Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Anakapalli, and Alluri Sitarama Raju districts have announced the closure of all educational institutions on Thursday due to the heavy rain alert.
Meanwhile, heavy rain continued to batter Srikakulam district for the second day on Wednesday, with Vajrapukotturu village in the district receiving the highest rainfall of 88.25 mm, according to the State Directorate of Economics and Statistics.
The rainfall was due to the influence of a deep depression that formed over the Bay of Bengal on Wednesday morning.
Other stations that recorded moderate rainfall on Wednesday till 6 p.m. include 73.75 mm of rainfall recorded at Laxminarasampeta of Srikakulam district, Putrela, Reddigudem and A.
Konduru of NTR districts, 67.68 mm, 64.18 mm and 62.84 mm respectively, while Edulagudem in Eluru and Pedayerukapadu in Krishna districts recorded 57 mm and 53.75 mm rainfall.
Advisory to fishermen
Fishermen have been advised not to venture along and off the Andhra Pradesh coast till September 25, as squally winds, with speeds of 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph, are likely to prevail along the coast on September 23 and 24.
Between 8.30 a.m. on Monday and the corresponding time on Tuesday, Palasa in Srikakulam district received 140 mm of rainfall. This was followed by Sompeta, Kalingapatnam, and Tekkali in the same district with 130 mm, 120 mm and 110 mm respectively.
Pathapatnam of Srikakulam district, Denkada of Vizianagaram district and Vizianagaram city recorded 90 mm.
