Cross cases have been registered against a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) and a woman passenger following an argument over upgrading a general ticket to a reserved one onboard the Mangaluru-Thiruvananthapuram Express that turned aggressive on Monday evening (July 20, 2026). The incident took place around 7 p.m. after the train left the Feroke railway station in Kerala’s Kozhikode district.
According to Railway Protection Force sources, the passenger boarded the train with an unreserved ticket. An argument broke out when the railway official asked her to move to the general compartment. The woman passenger, who was later accused of assaulting the TTE over the argument, claimed that the official turned rude when she sought a lawful ticket upgrade.
Following the incident, both of them filed complaints with the Government Railway Police (GRP), with a conflicting version of the incident.
In his complaint, the TTE alleged that the woman passenger showered abuses on him, prevented him from executing his duties, and physically attacked him when asked her to leave the reserved compartment.
The woman passenger, in her counter petition, alleged that the TTE blocked her way, used offensive language, and pushed her, causing injuries. She was travelling from Feroke to Kuttippuram.
Based on the TTE’s petition, the Railway police booked the woman under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
In the counter case registered on the passenger’s complaint, the GRP also registered a case against the TTE under various sections of the BNS. Police sources said the case would be further investigated by a GRP squad from the Shoranur station.
The statements of some of the passengers who witnessed the dispute on board would be recorded soon apart from examining the videos they captured as digital evidence.
