Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday (July 27, 2026) met Mohammad Irfan, the youth who went viral for reciting the Preamble to the Constitution during the recent student protest at Jantar Mantar.

Mr. Gandhi said Mr. Irfan’s outlook reflected the strength and promise of India’s youth. Coming from a slum settlement in Delhi, he spoke about the hardships faced by workers in the unorganised sector and the need for accessible education, healthcare, and democratic rights.

Sharing photographs of the meeting at Mr. Irfan’s house on Instagram, Mr. Gandhi described him as “a young man from a Delhi neighbourhood whose mindset transcends his circumstances”.

“His understanding of the Constitution, his perspective on the country, and his eagerness to learn demonstrate that India’s greatest strength lies in its youth,” Mr. Gandhi said, adding that millions of young people like Mr. Irfan were the country’s “true hope” — inquisitive, sensitive and conscious of their rights and duties.

Mr. Irfan had attracted widespread attention during the protest over the NEET controversy after a video of him reciting the Preamble and speaking about constitutional values went viral on social media.
