Prominent leaders from Assam joined the Congress on Friday (December 12, 2025) in the presence of general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal. Party general secretary in charge of Assam, Jitendra Singh Alwar, and Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi were also present on the occasion.

Those who joined the party on Friday (December 12, 2025) included former Minister Bubul Das, Gautam Dhanowar, Ashok Kumar Roy Prodhani, and Longki Tokbi. Earlier, four other senior leaders — Birkhang Boro, Sankar Jyoti Kutum, Shah Nawaz, and Kuldeep Rajbongshi — had joined the party.

Mr. Gogoi said that Assam had been facing serious problems of unemployment during the last ten years of the BJP rule, as industries had shut down. “The only industry currently running in Assam is the industry of hate being operated by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma,” he said. He said Assam needed to do better in promoting local industries like tea, textile, silk, and food processing.
