Nara Bharath Reddy, Ballari city MLA, said Praja Seva Abhiyan had been launched to take government services to the doorsteps of people, particularly those from economically weaker sections, and resolve their grievances without making them visit government offices repeatedly.
Inaugurating the drive on the Ganesh temple premises in ward 13 of Millerpet Ballari on Saturday, he said officials should either resolve genuine grievances at the programme or provide an appropriate response within 15 days. He warned that action would be sought from the Chief Minister against officials who neglected people’s grievances or failed to discharge their duties.
“We are going directly to slum areas so that the poor do not have to make repeated trips to government offices,” he said.
Mr. Reddy said work had begun on the first phase of a ₹260-crore project, part of the ₹1,200-crore scheme to supply treated drinking water from the Tungabhadra reservoir to Ballari city round the clock. He also said the administration had set a target of distributing 10,000 residential plots to eligible homeless poor families in Ballari city by January.
Mr. Reddy directed the authorities to announce the dates, timings and venues of the next 10 Praja Seva programmes in advance and undertake publicity in the respective areas at least a week before each programme through waste collection vehicles, autos and other means.
Mundaragi Nagaraj, chairman of Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram Leather Industries Development Corporation, said complaints relating to the Ballari City Corporation, land survey and subdivision (podi) cases, land maps, property tax and other civic issues were being taken up under the initiative. Applications received during the programmes would be examined in the presence of officials, he said.
Ballari City Corporation Mayor P. Gadeppa urged citizens to make use of the facility.
Counters were set up at the venue to receive complaints relating to basic infrastructure, drinking water, road repairs and benefits under various government schemes. Officials examined the applications received from the public and entered them in the Integrated Public Grievance Redressal System before forwarding them to departments concerned for time-bound action.
