Police should better equip themselves to deal with changing nature of crimes: CM

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday said the nature of crimes changed over the years and some anti-social elements were creating unrest in society by making abusive and inflammatory comments on social media platforms.

This tendency had to be curbed to ensure peace, and due emphasis laid on increasing the conviction rates by doing thorough investigations, he said, while stressing the need to restructure the policing system from time to time to achieve better outcomes.

Participating in the ‘Future-Ready AP Police’ workshop here, Mr. Naidu said concerted efforts should be made to achieve the desired results, noting that Operation Sindoor was successfully executed with very few personnel on the ground, using advanced technology.

He called upon the police personnel to be friendly with the public and strict toward criminals, and observed that some forces inimical to society were not hesitating to commit crimes just to trouble the government.

The Chief Minister asserted that the government could curb the menace of ganja and drugs to a large extent and more efforts remained to be made on this front. The police should be digitally literate in tune with the current trends in investigation and acquaint themselves with Artificial Intelligence that became a global revolution, he advised, adding that offences against women be sternly dealt with.
