A Haryana Police Inspector was killed and 13 people sustained injuries after a “Top Spin” swing collapsed at Surajkund Crafts Mela in Faridabad on Saturday (February 7, 2026). A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the vendor in this connection.

The tragedy struck around 6 p.m. when one end of the swing, carrying more than two dozen people, including women, suddenly came loose after rotating on its own axis and hit the ground with a loud thud even as the revellers’ screams of excitement and elation abruptly fell silent. It led to chaos at the venue that had witnessed a large crowd due to the weekend and the bystanders could be seen running for cover.

The area In-charge Inspector Jagdish sustained fatal injuries after the other end of the swing collapsed on him during the rescue.

The Top Spin, also known as Tsunami, is a high-thrill, pendulum-style amusement ride for the adults that simulates a “giant wave” by swinging back and forth while simultaneously rotating on its own axis. These rides often feature a maximum speed of 8-10 rounds per minute and are designed to provide intense, dynamic, and spinning sensations.

Deputy Commissioner Faridabad Ayush Sinha told the media persons that nine of the injured were taken to a private hospital and four were admitted at the Civil Hospital. Police Inspector Jagdish, currently posted at Palwal, was duty in charge of the area at the festival ground when the incident took place and sustained head injuries while trying to rescue the revellers, said Mr. Sinha, adding that the police officer was declared brought dead at the hospital.

He said that a committee carried out a daily inspection of the swings installed at the mela ground.

Haryana Tourism Minister Arvind Sharma, who visited the accident spot, in a post on X, said that directions were issued for a thorough investigation of the entire incident and assured strict action against the culprits. “All the injured were being provided with the best possible medical treatment,” said the post.

Chief Minister Nayab Saini said the Haryana government was fully committed, with utmost promptness and sensitivity, to providing all possible assistance to the injured and their families.

The 39th Surajkund International Atmanirbhar Craft Festival 2026 was inaugurated by Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan on January 31. Recognised as one of the country’s largest cultural showcases, the fair has evolved into a strong global identity for Indian cultural heritage, crafts, and art since its inception in 1987. More than 50 countries, with over 700 foreign delegates and representatives, are taking part in the Mela this year, with Egypt being the partner nation for this edition.
