The special investigation team (SIT) dealing with the lynching of a labourer from Chattisgarh at Attappallam, near Walayar, on December 17 last year has identified a few more persons involved in the criminal act.

They were suspected to have escaped to neighbouring Tamil Nadu after the police intensified the investigation. The police said some of those identified had direct involvement in the attack.

Sources said the police were mulling issuance of lookout notices for the absconding suspects. The police said they got several photographs and video footages of the lynching incident that took place on December 17 afternoon.

Ram Narayan Baghel, a 31-year-old resident of Champa district in Chhattisgarh, was lynched by a mob at Attappallam. A father of two children aged eight and 10, Ram Narayan was seized, interrogated and lynched by a mob that accused him of theft.

Eight of the accused have been arrested so far, while sources said around a dozen others were still on the run.
