The Chittoor police conducted a district-wide surprise inspection of roadside dhabas from Tuesday night till the early hours of Wednesday as part of a drive to strengthen public safety and crackdown on unlawful activities.

Speaking to the media here on Wednesday, Superintendent of Police (SP) Tushar Dudi said that police personnel conducted inspections across all station limits. The teams examined the presence and functioning of CCTV cameras, lighting facilities, parking arrangements, and verified the particulars of employees working at the dhabas.

The SP said that the inspections highlighted the urgency and need for all the establishments to install and properly maintain CCTV systems, besides having foolproof employee details.

Mr. Tushar Dudi warned that illegal activities, including liquor consumption, woman trafficking, drug abuse and gambling, would invite prosecution. He appealed to the dhaba operators on the busy national highways passing through the district to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or activities to the area police immediately. “Inspection of dhabas and lodges will be a continuous process in view of public safety,” the SP said.
