Police arrested an unidentified man for allegedly pouring petrol on a tribal woman and setting her on fire at North Tribal Colony, located within the limits of Kota panchayat in Kota mandal of SPSR Nellore district on Thursday night. The police took the man into custody within hours of the incident.
According to the police, the woman was identified as Molakala Sudha (alias Vijayamma). She had been living apart from her husband for several years and was residing with her two children at her mother’s house. While she was sleeping on the floor, a man poured petrol on her and set her on fire.
Acting promptly on the complaint filed by the victim, and following orders from District Superintendent of Police (SP) Ajitha Vejendla, Gudur Rural Circle Inspector (CI) Kishore Babu, Kota Sub-Inspector (SI) Pavan Kumar and their team apprehended the accused within a few hours of the incident.
While the accused confessed to the crime during police interrogation, the police are gathering full details and investigating the underlying reasons for the attack. Meanwhile, the victim was initially admitted to Kota Government Hospital for primary treatment.
For further medical care, she was transferred in a special ambulance to Ruia Hospital in Tirupati, where she is undergoing emergency treatment. According to the doctors, her condition is currently stable.
