The Bagalagunte police arrested a 40-year-old contract killer reportedly before he could execute a hit on a textile merchant on Thursday. The accused, identified as Vinod Kumar Jaat, was tracked down after he called his supposed target, Nemaram, to warn him that he would be killed.
Based on a complaint, the police tracked down Vinod from his native Pali district in Rajasthan. The police later arrested Venaram, who had given ₹5 lakh ‘supari’ to Vinod in order to eliminate Nemaram.
A detailed probe revealed that both Nemaram and Venaram were businessmen having textile and readymade apparel shops next to each other on Bagalagunte Main Road.
While Nemaram’s business was reportedly flourishing, Venaram suffered losses. According to the police, Nemaram hired a number of staff from Venaram’s shop, offering them more salary. Following this, Venaram allegedly hired Vinod, a habitual offender, to kill Nemaram.
Earlier, Vinod allegedly attempted to attack Nemaram in a seperate incident. Nemaram reportedly managed to escape; however, he did not realise that he was being targeted.
On September 17, Vinod reportedly got drunk and called Nemaram to inform the latter that he is going to be killed in a few days. Alerted by this, Nemaram complained to the police, who swung into action and arrested the accused.
Vinod had multiple criminal cases pending against him, police said.
