Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially dedicate Dhordo as a “Solar Village” to the nation on Saturday (September 20, 2025) during the ‘Samudra Se Samriddhi’ programme in Bhavnagar, Gujarat.

With this, Dhordo will become the fourth solar-powered village in the State, after Modhera in Mehsana, Sukhi in Kheda, and Masali in Banaskantha.

Dhordo, a remote village in Gujarat’s Kutch internationally acclaimed as the ‘Best Tourism Village’ by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), will script another success story by going fully solar-powered.

As part of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, every residential electricity connection in Dhordo has been solarised, ensuring that homes generate their own clean energy. A total of 81 houses in the village have been fitted with rooftop solar panels, creating a combined installed capacity of 177 kilowatts. The system is projected to generate 2.95 lakh units of electricity annually, directly translating into significant economic relief for residents.

Sarpanch Miyan Hussain said, “Although Dhordo is a remote village, it has seen remarkable development under the guidance of Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. With solar rooftops now installed in every home, electricity bills will be greatly reduced, providing significant relief to the villagers. Supported by government subsidies and bank loans, the villagers have incurred minimal expenses, and this initiative has brought immense joy to our community.”
