Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday (December 1, 2025), announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh to families of each of those who were killed in a road accident in Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu on Sunday (November 30) evening.

“The loss of lives due to a mishap in Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover soon. An ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given ₹50,000: PM,” a social media post by the Prime Minister’s office said.

Earlier on Sunday, 11 persons were killed and 50 others were injured when two buses of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) collided near Nachiyarpuram at Thirupathur in Sivaganga district. A bus proceeding from Karaikudi to Devakottai and another travelling from Devakottai to Dindigul collided near Vivekananda Polytechnic College.

A preliminary inquiry revealed that both buses were going on the narrow road at high speed. The same night, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had announced a solatium of ₹3 lakh each for the families of the deceased, a compensation of ₹1 lakh each for those who sustained serious injuries, and ₹50,000 each for those who suffered minor injuries.
