Peringamala grama panchayat is getting ready to host the district panchayat’s farm festival ‘Niravu’ from September 10.
One of the highlights of the farm festival, being held in association with the Agriculture department, is a two-acre sunflower farm against the backdrop of the beautiful Western Ghats. Over 10,000 sunflower plants at the farm have painted the landscape yellow, providing the perfect setting for multiple selfie corners where visitors will be able to take photographs.
Atop a 30-foot-tall rock next to the sunflower farm, a wooden bridge has been readied. A hut too has been set up for the visitors to relax and take in the view, especially of the sunflower farm.
Environment friendly seating has been arranged next to the farm for visitors to relax and take in the beauty of the surroundings. Food stalls provide local food, while children can celebrate Onam even after the festival at an Onam corner and swings.
Special farm corners where visitors can purchase planting material have been arranged at the fete. Jeeps have been arranged for visitors to go round the farm.
Fine Arts graduate Nibu A.N. is the person behind the Suryasmitham nature park.
Farm seminars and discussions; cultural programmes, including ganamela and theatre by women; ‘krishipathashala’ for children; get-together of women farmers against the backdrop of 2026 being the International Year of the Woman Farmer; and farm-related games of the Agriculture department staff have been arranged under the leadership of district panchayat Health standing committee chairperson K.R. Shaiju.
