Deputy Inspector General (North zone) K. Karthik, who reviewed the progress of the ongoing investigation into the Perambra drug trafficking case, on Wednesday (July 29, 2026) said that one of the five accused received over ₹1 crore from suspected drug buyers in the past six months alone.

He said the fifth accused, who was working as a delivery agent with a parcel company, had no other steady source of income to earn such a huge fund within a short time.

Explaining the progress of the probe under a special investigation team (SIT) formed by District Police Chief (Kozhikode Rural) Merin Joseph, he said similar illegal transactions were noticed in the accounts of all the other accused in the incident. “We suspect the involvement of more persons in these drug deals. The source of the drugs and money will be exposed in the forthcoming phase of investigation,” he added.

According to Mr. Karthik, the digital evidence gathered by the SIT could uncover the mutual relationships between the five arrested persons. The police have also moved court seeking the custody of the remanded individuals, including the three special instructors, to proceed with a detailed interrogation, he added.
