The accused identified as Iragamreddy Naga Dasthagiri Reddy (36), hailing from Duvvur mandal and residing in Proddatur town of Kadapa district, was allegedly involved in red sanders smuggling since 2014. A total of 128 cases have been registered against him in Kadapa and neighbouring districts, out of which 98 cases where related to red sanders smuggling.
Dasthagiri Reddy was detained thrice under the PD Act in the past and sent to jail, but he continued to engage in smuggling after getting released, the police said.
