Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan will address the concerns of fisherfolk regarding the alleged marine pollution caused by pharmaceuticals along the Uppada coast. He will speak at a public meeting in Uppada on Thursday.
Before beginning his field trip, Mr. Pawan Kalyan will interact with the five-member committee, constituted on Tuesday to study the impact of the pharma activities on coastal communities.
The committee comprises the Commissioners of Industries and Fisheries; the Member-Secretary, Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board; the District Collector and Magistrate, Kakinada (Member/Convener); and representatives of the fishermen community to be nominated by the District Collector.
It may be recalled that the fishermen had staged road blockades in September 2025 to protest against the alleged dumping of chemical waste into the sea by the pharmaceutical and other companies near the coast, which posed a serious threat to the fish and other marine life, affecting the income of the fishing community. They had demanded the immediate closure of the factories responsible for the pollution and called on the government to initiate strong action.
