The plan for the houses to be built for seven Dalit families at Pariyathukavu in Malayidamthuruth near Kizhakkambalam as per a rehabilitation package announced by the government following a long-standing land dispute was handed over to the beneficiaries on Saturday (July 4, 2026).

Kunnathunadu MLA V.P. Sajeendran handed over the plan, comprising three different sketches for the proposed 1,000-sq.ft. houses to the families at a meeting held at the District Collector’s chamber.

The most suitable plan will be finalised by July 6, and the district commission is planning to lay the foundation for the houses by July 16, an official release said.

The houses will be built on plots of five cents each allotted to the seven families within a 2.69-acre property where they have been staying for long. The plots were allotted to the families following government-level talks, after the landowner family won the ownership rights over the property following decades-long litigation. The government will build the houses in the designated plots using sponsorship funds, as per the settlement agreement announced by Higher Education Minister Roji M. John on June 13.
