Seven years after administrative sanction, the parallel Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Falaknuma built by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), was inaugurated on Friday by Minister Ponnam Prabhakar.
The ROB was constructed parallel to an existing ROB on the Secunderabad-Falaknuma broad gauge railway line in order to address the traffic congestion at the location. The expenditure of ₹52.03 crore included GHMC’s civil works, work that came under the scope of the South Central Railway, and utility shifting by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board, and Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited, besides land acquisition.
The bridge spans a length of 360 metres, and together with the reconstructed portion of the existing ROB, provides four lanes of carriageway, a statement from the GHMC informed.
A 36-metre box culvert, 12 metre wide light vehicle underpass, at grade road lengths of 60 and 100 metres respectively on the Chandrayangutta and Falaknuma sides and 210-metre service roads were part of the works completed.
The project is set to transform traffic flow in the old city by ensuring conflict-free movement from Barkas Junction to Falaknuma bus depot, the statement said. It will significantly reduce travel time and de-congest the road facilitating heavy traffic leading towards Charminar.
Members of Parliament Anil Kumar Yadav, Asaduddin Owaisi, MLCs Mirza Riyaz Ul Hassan Effendi and Mirza Rahmat Baig, MLAs Mohammed Mubeen and Mir Zulfiqar Ali, GHMC Commissioner R.V.Karnan and others were present at the launch.
