AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Saturday urged Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to release a detailed white paper on the financial position of the State government and the companies functioning under it and the borrowings availed by them.

In a post on X, he alleged that the DMK government had so far availed itself of market borrowings to the tune of ₹4.50 lakh crore. “This shows that the Chief Minister M.K. Stalin-led regime has failed in all aspects including financial management,” Mr. Palaniswami alleged, and urged the DMK government to immediately reduce its borrowings and implement cost-saving measures.

The Leader of the Opposition said while the State Budget for 2025-26 had estimated a revenue deficit of ₹41,635 crore, it had already touched ₹25,686 crore in the first five months of the fiscal, according to figures from the Comptroller and Auditor-General.

“While the capital expenditure has been estimated at ₹57,271 crore, only ₹9,899 crore has been spent. Given factors such as the monsoon season and election, it is a big question mark whether the DMK government will reach its capital expenditure target. Tamil Nadu is a top borrowing State, despite the State government revenue increasing from hike in property tax, registration fees, electricity charges, among others,” he added.
