AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Tuesday condemned the sexual assault of a young woman by two police personnel in Tiruvannamalai district. He further criticised the DMK government over the safety of women in the State.

Referring to the crime in Tiruvannamalai district, Mr. Palaniswami said in a social media post: “This is the peak of lack of safety of women. What is the answer of the Chief Minister for this incident in which the policemen, who are supposed to protect women are behind the incident?”

Mr. Palaniswami blamed the Chief Minister for the incident and condemned the DMK government for having failed to ensure the safety of women. He further demanded that the affected woman be given medical treatment and that those responsible for the incident are brought to book and handed out severe punishment.

AMMK founder T.T.V. Dhinakaran too condemned the incident and called for handing severe punishment to the police personnel involved in the offence.

“The involvement of police personnel, who are supposed to maintain law and order, in the sexual assault of a woman, only makes one lose the trust on the police force as a whole,” Mr. Dhinakaran contended.
