Due to increased discharge from Maharashtra, irrigation officers increased outflow from Almatti dam to arround 1.1 lakh cusecs of water on Thursday.
They requested officers of the Revenue and Police Departments to alert residents of river bank villages. The residents were being asked to shift to safer places.
“Considering rainfall in upper catchment area and upstream discharges, inflow to the Almatti dam is likely to increase. The outflow is likely to increase further,” said an irrigation officer.
Total discharge from Maharashtra reservoirs measured at Kallol barrage is 86,840 cusecs. This is an increase by 7,056 cusecs as compared to Wednesday’s discharge of 79,784 cusecs.
Officers said the discharge quantum is likely to increase. The Lal Bahadur Shastri reservoir on the Krishna river in Almatti now has an average inflow of around 89,361 cusecs.
The dam has live storage of 99 tmcft against the full capacity of 123 tmcft of water. The Hipparagi Barrage had an inflow of 78,400 cusecs and an outflow of 76,900 cusecs. The Raja Lakhamagouda dam on the Ghataprabha on Hidkal had around 30 tmcft of live storage. The inflow was 16,872 cusecs and the outflow was 1,555 cusecs.
The Renuka Sagar dam on the Malparbha had around 11.9 tmcft of water against the full capacity of 37 tmcft. The inflow was around 2,536 cusecs and outflow was 1,194 cusecs.
