Deploying drones and a specially trained K9 squad, the Kozhikode City Police have intensified surveillance and enforcement measures against drug peddlers as part of ‘Operation Toofan’, an anti-narcotics drive.
On Wednesday (June 10, 2026), the squads, supported by around 35 police personnel from various stations, conducted flash inspections at various bus terminals and parking spots within the city limits to identify and detain suspects.
A specially trained sniffer dog, 296 Blacky, along with the police drone surveillance unit and a 20-member strike team led by District Police Chief (Kozhikode City) Merin Joseph, participated in the operation. Sub-inspector Nimin K. Divakaran coordinated the team.
Police officers overseeing the district-level action said the frequency of field-level inspections would be increased in the coming days based on fresh intelligence inputs. They also said the upcoming search operations would mainly focus on educational institutions, colleges, schools, and other such important places.
