Soldiers are continuing their pursuit of a group of terrorists reported to be holed up in the forests of Rajouri, in the Pir Panjal Valley, for the seventh straight day on Friday (May 29, 2026). An alert has been issued in Poonch district after “suspicious movements” were spotted.

Officials said they believe three terrorists are holed up in the Gambhir Mughlan in the Dorimal forest belt in Rajouri. On May 23, the Army spotted and engaged the group in a firefight. However, they managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness and the dense forest.

Officials said combing has been intensified and exit points sealed. Troops made contact with the terrorists twice while they were on-the-run. Helicopters and drones are aiding the operation.

Officials said steep hills, dense forests, narrow tracks and natural caves were making the operation difficult.
