Nellore District Collector Himanshu Shukla said cleanliness and sanitation in the district would be maintained in accordance with the Swachh Survekshan 2025-26 guidelines.

He formally launched the State government’s prestigious cleanliness drive, ‘Operation Clean Sweep’, at the A.C. Subba Reddy Stadium in Nellore city on Saturday by wielding a broom and sweeping the premises along with Mayor D. Sujatha, Nellore Municipal Corporation Commissioner O. Nandan and TDP State spokesperson Kotamreddy Giridhar Reddy.

Mr. Shukla said the objective of the drive was to ensure visible cleanliness in public spaces and encourage people’s participation in the movement.

“Cleanliness should become a people’s movement and not remain only the government’s responsibility,” he said.

The month-long cleanliness campaign was launched simultaneously in 123 urban local bodies across the State as part of the Swarnandhra Swachhandra initiative aimed at ensuring clean urban spaces, efficient solid waste management and improved sanitation infrastructure.

Mr. Giridhar Reddy said efforts would be made to take the movement to the grassroots level and transform Nellore into a clean and green city.
