Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Friday said once five or six stations of the Namma Metro Blue Line are completed, they will be opened for public use.

After inspecting the ongoing construction on the Airport Metro (Blue Line) corridor, Mr. Shivakumar said that he has conducted progress reviews across all departments under his portfolio, including the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), ahead of the Karnataka’s legislature session in Belagavi scheduled from December 8 to 19.

Mr. Shivakumar said the 58-km ORR–Airport Metro, a ₹15,000 crore project connecting Central Silk Board to Kempegowda International Airport, will be commissioned in stages if needed.

“If the contractor does not complete the work on time, we will not award them any further contracts,” he warned.

Mr. Shivakumar said that the deadlines have been set for each section of the Blue Line: the Central Silk Board–K.R. Puram stretch (Phase 2A) is targeted for completion by December 2026, while the K.R. Puram–Hebbal portion must be ready by December 2027. The Hebbal–Kempegowda International Airport section (Phase 2B) carries a deadline of June 2026.

According to the BMRCL, once fully operational, it will provide a seamless 58.19-km transit link from the IT hubs around Silk Board in the south to the airport in the north, via K.R. Puram.

The 19.75-km Phase 2A section and the 38.44-km Phase 2B airport link together will form the longest uninterrupted metro corridor in the city.
