Famous Nuzvid veena maker, Sheik Mabu Saheb, who has been making efforts to protect the art by making the musical instrument, and training the artists, presented a model of the veena to Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan at Musunuru on Monday (August 24, 2026.)
The Vice-President, along with Governor S. Abdul Nazeer, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, IT Minister Nara Lokesh and Information and Public Relations Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy, launched Gourmet Popcornica non-GMO variety maize seed at Musunuru in Eluru district.
Mr. Mabu, the veena artist and maker, who attended the programme presented the miniature model of the traditional stringed musical instrument designed by him, to Mr. Radhakrishnan.
“Minister, Parthasarathy offered my veena to the Vice-President, and introduced me when I was standing at some distance near the dais. Mr. Radhakrishnan appreciated me for protecting the art by designing veenas and creating artists,” Mr. Mabu told The Hindu on Tuesday.
“My grandfather Sheik Kasim Saheb and my father Meera Saheb were in the profession for more than eight decades. They were experts in chiselling and carving the lightweight musical instruments,” Mr. Mabu said.
Governor, Chief Minister and the Ministers appreciated me from the dais in the programme. I presented the traditional veenas to many VIPs and celebrities in the last few decades, the veena artist said.
“I sell about 25 musical instruments in a year. Artists from abroad will visit my veena-making workshop (my house) in Nuzvid and place orders,” the veena manufacturing expert said.
“If the government offers some benefits, I can create more young veena artists,” the veena master, who won many prizes and certificates, said.
