PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss on Friday said his party will not support any alliance in the upcoming Madurantakam (SC) and Dharapuram (SC) Assembly bypolls. “I would like to inform you that after consultations with the state executives of the PMK and the executives of the districts comprising the two constituencies, it has been decided not to support any party,” he said in a statement.

The decision of the party comes at a time when the PMK and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam have exhibited closeness on several occasions since the election results on May 4. While the PMK’s floor leader Sowmiya Anbumani and Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss met with the Water Resources minister and TVK general secretary, N Anand, to discuss various water projects, Dr. Anbumani also was seen playing badminton recently with PWD minister, Aadhav Arjuna.

The announcement is seen as a blow to the prospects of the AIADMK, especially in the Madurantakam seat, in which PMK reportedly has a strong support base.
