At present there is no proposal for revising the income criteria for determining creamy layer status for OBCs, Minister of State of Social Justice and Empowerment, B.L.Verma said.
Timeline for revision
Responding to a query raised by Rajya Sabha MP Salma, Mr. Verma said that the revision of income limit is done on an ongoing basis from time to time. “The last order for revision of the non-creamy layer annual income limit from ₹ 6 lakh to ₹ 8 lakh was issued by the Department of Personnel and Training on 13.09.2017,” he pointed out. Ms. Salma had asked whether government had plans to revise existing income criteria for determining the creamy layer among OBCs based on the seventh report of the Lok Sabha committee on welfare of Other Backward Classes presented in April, 2025 and the expected timeline for the next revision especially in view of requests from several States including Tamil Nadu.
