The government is steering the APSRTC towards a new phase of growth and transformation, says Transport Minister M. Ramprasad Reddy.

Transport Minister M. Ramprasad Reddy on Saturday said that there were no plans to privatise the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC).
In a statement, the Minister said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had held a high-level review meeting and announced a series of initiatives aimed at modernising the public sector transport.
Highlighting the successful completion of one year of the Stree Shakti scheme, the Minister said it was not a financial burden on the APSRTC, rather a social responsibility.
He said as part of broader modernisation efforts, APSRTC depots would be upgraded through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and the government had pledged continued support to the APSRTC employees.
The Minister claimed that the coalition government had successfully revived the APSRTC after a period of decline in the previous five years. “The government now is steering the APSRTC towards a new phase of growth and transformation,” he said.
Electric buses
Mr. Reddy said large-scale adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in public transport was a key focus of the government’s strategy and as part of a phased expansion plan, APSRTC will introduce 700 electric buses within the next two months, while operational infrastructure for EV services will be established in six depots by July.
He said additionally, 300 electric buses had been allocated under the Mahavas scheme, and the procurement process for another 500 electric buses had already been completed. The government had set an ambitious target of deploying 3,000 electric buses across Andhra Pradesh.
The Minister said to improve connectivity, APSRTC would operate 40 special buses between Vijayawada and the upcoming Bhogapuram airport and the Corporation was also preparing for the Godavari Pushkaralu by introducing special bus services branded as “Godavari”.
Mr. Reddy said that the new electric buses, equipped with modern passenger amenities, will gradually be introduced across all service categories, ranging from Palle Velugu to Express services.
He said induction of 3,000 new electric buses will mark a major transformation for APSRTC, strengthening public transport services while advancing the state’s environmental and mobility goals.
